Help support renters with the Secure Homes Action Campaign

The Canadian Centre for Housing Rights launched this campaign on Nov. 22, National Housing Day, and it will run until Jan. 22, 2024. Let’s help them spread the word! Following is their campaign brief:

“Renters across Canada are in crisis and lack basic legal protections needed to live securely in their homes. Right now, half of Canada’s renters are worried about being able to pay their rent. Many renters in Canada are going without necessities, while others are forced to live in inadequate or unsafe housing.

Renters in Canada do not enjoy the same basic legal protections in every province and territory. Although some provincial and territorial laws provide a degree of rent regulation, renters are not adequately protected against excessive rent increases anywhere in the country. This is unacceptable and cannot continue.

It’s time for our governments to take action. We’re joining the Canadian Centre for Housing Rights (CCHR) in calling on our provincial government to implement strong rent regulation to ensure that rents are fair and basic legal protections are in place so that renters can live in secure homes.”

In under two minutes, you can send a letter to your provincial or territorial government through CCHR’s website. Send a letter now: https://housingrightscanada.com/secure-homes/
