As many of you know, Cherise Burda and I started co-hosting a podcast in 2025 based on housing, funded by the New Housing Alternatives SSHRC Grant led by Alan Walks and Susannah Bunce at U of T. So far our guests have included Ray Sullivan (Canadian Housing Renewal Association) and Dr. Alex Flynn (UBC), Jill Atkey (BC Non-Profit Housing Association), Steve Pomeroy (Focus Consulting), Ricardo Tranjan (Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives), and Tim Ross (Co-operative Housing Federation). I’m pleased to report that based on our first four episodes,
- New Housing Alternatives placed in the top 30% of global podcasts by launch performance. Most podcasts never pass 50 consistent downloads per episode: we had an average of 83
- An estimated 18,600 minutes (310 hours) have been consumed based on the downloads
- On Apple, 83.2% of our episodes are being consumed by listeners on average, meaning we have a highly engaged audience because most people listen to the end
- Our listeners are pretty diverse, with 50% females, which is amazing since most podcasts typically skew more male
- Nearly 84% of our audience is aged 28-59, and our listeners range across the country, with about 47% in Ontario and good representation in BC, Quebec, and Nova Scotia
We are so grateful for your support as we navigate a completely new media for both of us! And thanks so much to the NHA team for supporting our podcast.
